Controversy with Vans Womens Advertising

A few months back it was Nyjah Huston who kicked off controversy with his “skateboarding is not for girls at all” comments and now’s it’s Vans who have been called out for their sexist advertising (see photo). We spotted this on pro skater Amelia Brodka’s page and if the hundreds of comments are anything to go by then Vans have just lost a whole lot of support, credibility and business. The comments go from the angry ‘how degrading this is for women who are dedicated to extreme sports’ to the shocked ‘why does it look like she’s grinding a stripper pole’ and a whole lot of others. Vans aren’t alone in making this mistake though and it was mid way through last year that Roxy took a PR storm for overly sexualising their contests. Sort it out!
