Skater Girl wanted for CBBC TV Series: My Life

Jessica from Lambent Productions has been in touch looking for some confident young teenagers to talk about their lives. She is looking for any ‘boyish’ 12 to 14 year old girls who can share their experiences and appear on the CBBC TV series called My Life later this year. Here is the full description:

Are you, or do you know, a ‘boyish’ girl who would like to share her experiences? Lambent is a highly reputable television company making a documentary for the CBBC series My Life, about gender identity. MY LIFE programmes let children and young teens tell stories about their own lives in their own voices; you can see clips of the last series here and for more about Lambent films please see

This film will be told from the point of view of 12-14 year old girls sometimes described as ‘tomboys’ (girls who, for example, may prefer a clothing or lifestyle traditionally considered to be in a male gendered domain) or their male equivalent; a boy who relates better to things viewed traditionally female.

Our programme is not about sexuality or stereotyping. It’s simply about Being Yourself, and how that feels. Our film will be aimed at an audience of 9-12 year olds.

We’re looking for confident, comfortable and articulate young teens keen to discuss their feelings around living with difference – male, female (or anywhere they like in between), who might be interested in talking to us, and possibly taking part.

This will be a fun, invigorating process and a great opportunity to say what’s on your mind about anything from friendships and peers to clothes, hobbies, society and school – whatever you think and feel about Being You in the world.

Lambent Productions believes taking part in our films should be a positive experience and that by working with people we represent them properly, so that, ultimately, their stories are richer. Our relationships are based on mutual trust and we take great care to honour that. This passion has allowed Lambent to establish an award-winning track record in documentaries and education, and we have worked with children for over 15 years. We make educational films for BBC Learning and Channel 4 Education, such as our recent dance films True Stories, and have made programmes in over 100 schools for Teachers TV.

If interested, or if you know someone who may be, please either contact us yourself or ask your parent or carer to get in touch to find out more. We are Jessica Leigh or Michaela Eels on 01273 648 380 or email or With many thanks.
